Six Packages Stolen In Morris Township: Police

The holiday season is almost here, and with that comes an increase in online shopping-- and package thefts.

MORRIS TOWNSHIP, NJ -- Several package thefts have been reported in Morris Township this week, and police are asking the community for help identifying this man.

Police say the man, captured on video above, stole packages from a Harter Road area residence, and since his picture was made public five other package thefts have been reported. According to police, the man took a full package from the Harter Road home, and left an empty package that was taken from a Skyline Drive area home in its place.

He drove off in a White Acura TL, possibly a 2006 or 2007 model. Anyone with information about him is asked to contact Det. Boeninghaus at cboeninghaus@mtpd1422.com or 973-326-7480.

With the holiday shopping season starting, police are urging residents to be cautious when having packages delivered to their homes. They shared these safety tips:

  • Customize your deliveries. Most companies have this option. You can change the time and location of the delivery.
  • Consider an alternate destination. When you order something online, consider sending the package to your workplace or to a family member, friend, or neighbor who is home during the day to accept delivery.
  • Request a signature. Many packages today are sent without requiring a signature for delivery. If you’re shipping something of high value – or you just want to be sure the items aren’t left unattended – you can require a signature for packages to be released. Only the shipper can make this request.
  • Leave special instructions. Ask delivery companies to leave packages at the rear of your residence or on the side of the house by the garage for example.
