Slaying Of Morris County Teen To Be Remembered Saturday

Christopher Thomas, 16, was murdered at the Rockaway Townsquare Mall in 1982. According to police, his murder case is still unsolved.

MORRIS COUNTY, NJ —Christopher Thomas, a Boonton resident, was 16 years old when he was shot at the Rockaway Townsquare Mall in Rockaway Township while out with his girlfriend.

The slaying on Oct. 1, 1982, remains unsolved, according to police.

According to Morris County officials, the Thomas family will hold a public gathering on Saturday at 5 p.m. at Morris Catholic High School to commemorate the anniversary of his death and to keep his memory alive.

Thomas' brother, Mark Thomas, will announce an increased reward and ask the public to help solve the shooting death of his brother, officials said.

Thomas was at the Rockaway Townsquare Mall when a random male approached and shot him, according to police records. The man, described as a white male in his early 20s, about 5'5" tall, wearing a blue coat and mirrored sunglasses, was never caught.

The memorial service scheduled for Saturday will mark 40 years since Thomas' death. Law enforcement will be on hand to support the Thomas family, and all statements and comments will be live-streamed for the entire community to see.
