Tax Sale Scheduled In Morristown; Is Your Property On The List?
Property owners who are on the list and are behind on municipal charges or property tax payments have one month to catch up.
MORRISTOWN, NJ — Morristown has announced its annual tax sale for properties that have not paid property taxes, assessments or have other municipal liens, such as sewer and Special Improvement District (SID) charges.
The sale is set for 11 a.m. on Oct. 4, 2023, in the Town Council Room, which is located at 200 South Street, Morristown.
People whose properties are on the list can be removed by paying the amount owed — including the amount due, interest, and charges incurred — at the township tax collector's office with a certified check, cash, or money order.

Separate payments are required for tax and sewer.
If the property owner is on active duty with the military, they must notify the tax collector immediately, the Morristown notice of the sale said.

"The Municipality is precluded from issuing Tax Sale Certificates to any prospective purchaser who is or may in any way be connected to the prior owner/ operator of the site," the town's notice of the sale said.
If a municipality has delinquent property taxes and/or municipal charges, New Jersey law requires all 566 municipalities to hold at least one tax sale per year. Winning bidders must immediately pay outstanding taxes and interest to municipalities.
Buyers are then given a tax sale certificate, which they can use to foreclose on the property and obtain ownership after the lengthy process. Learn more about tax lien sales in New Jersey here.
