Thefts Targeting Hyundai, Kia Models Spur Alert From Morris Township
Car thieves, according to authorities, are exploiting a security hole in these brands.
MORRIS TOWNSHIP, NJ — Hyundai and Kia owners should be on the lookout as thieves are targeting these brands, according to NJ Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin and local police departments.
According to state records, 143,000 Hyundais and Kias registered in New Jersey have a fatal security flaw that makes them account for 19 percent of all auto thefts in New Jersey.
According to Platkin, videos detailing this security issue are frequently circulated on the internet, exacerbating the problem. These stolen vehicles are frequently used to conduct additional crimes, including violent crimes.
