MORRISTOWN, NJ — Thousands of people braved the less-than-ideal weather this weekend to exercise their First Amendment rights at Morristown’s No Kings Rally.

According to the Morristown Democratic Committee, 4,000 protestors gathered outside Morristown Town Hall Saturday afternoon to voice their concerns about “the increasing authoritarian excesses and corruption of the Trump administration."

According to organizer Dana Levens, the demonstration was "an inspiring and motivating experience."

"The rain never let up, but that didn’t stop enthusiastic folks from taking to the streets and making their voices heard," Levens told Patch. "Every featured speaker was pointed in messaging and well-received by the crowd of over 4,000."

Several special guests spoke at the rally, including the newly elected gubernatorial democratic nominee Mikie Sherrill.

“Make no mistake, this is what patriotism looks like,” Sherrill said of Morristown’s rally. “I love this country and its flag, and my allegiance will always be to our Constitution, not a president or political party.”

Protestors also heard speeches from Morristown Mayor Tim Dougherty, former congressman Tom Malinowski, and many other NJ leaders. Even former Republican Gov. Christie Whitman made a surprise appearance.

The crowd rallied together, holding signs that denounced kings, condemned fascism, and embraced democracy and the Constitution.

Protestors were also treated with two musicians, Billy Webster and Sam Tunkel, who "kept our energy up and our convictions focused as they rounded out the day with meaningful songs," organizers said.

The peaceful demonstration was sponsored by the Morris County Democratic Committee, Planned Parenthood Action Fund of NJ, NJ 11th for Change, and New Jersey Citizen Action.

Morristown’s No Kings rally was one of several that took place this Saturday across the country. Meanwhile, in the capital, Donald Trump’s birthday/Flag Day procession made its way down Constitution Street on Saturday. The procession featured more than 6,000 soldiers and 128 Army tanks.
