Veterans Honored As Morristown Plans Annual Wreaths Across America

Volunteers are once again invited to lay wreaths on veterans' graves marked by American flags following the ceremony.

MORRISTOWN, NJ — Veterans who are eternally resting in Morristown and Morris Township cemeteries will be honored once more this winter during the annual Wreaths Across America program.

According to event organizers, this year's Morristown Remembers Wreaths Across America Memorial Service will be held on Dec. 16 at noon at Holy Rood Cemetery Church of The Assumption, which is located at 61 Whippany Road.

Following the ceremony, participants and volunteers are invited to lay wreaths on veterans' graves marked by American flags at the Holy Rood Cemetery.

"We will be joining with over 2,000 cemeteries across America and at overseas military burial grounds to remember and honor our veterans by laying Remembrance Wreaths on the graves of our country's fallen heroes," event organizers said.

In Morristown, there are 800 veteran graves, officials said.

Here are some things to remember about the ceremony:

  • Everyone of all ages and backgrounds is welcome.
  • Please help ensure that all participants get the opportunity to place a wreath by taking one per person.
  • Please follow the location coordinator's instructions on where to place wreaths, as well as "how" they should be placed.
  • We especially appreciate volunteers willing to help clean up. Please check in with the location coordinator if you are interested in helping with the clean-up.

This year, the event will be assisted by local veterans from the American Legion Post #59. Since the American Legion was first founded in 1919, the American Legion has been welcoming veterans from all branches of the Armed Forces.
