Yes, It Really Snowed That Much In Edison And Metuchen

National Weather Service snow totals confirm what anyone who drove Thursday evening already knows: it snowed a LOT in Edison and Metuchen.

EDISON, NJ — Thursday afternoon's early season snow storm was not the pretty white dusting some people might have been expecting. No, this was a wallop, with wet, heavy flakes bringing Edison and Metuchen commuters to a standstill, and National Weather Service snow totals confirm what you already knew: it snowed a LOT.

According to snow totals submitted by a trained spotter, Edison received 6.3 inches of snow, while neighboring Woodbridge got five inches. Snow totals for Metuchen were not submitted, but some residents reported measuring about six inches on social media.

Other parts of Middlesex County were much luckier, with Old Bridge getting only two inches. The highest total recorded in the state was 10.2 inches in Highland Lake and Montague, both in Sussex County.

The wet, heavy snow totally gridlocked Edison and Metuchen. Tractor trailers blocked some roads while ice made others impassible. One reader said it took them three hours to make it from Highland Park to North Edison on local roads.

Snow totals are recorded by a mix of trained National Weather Services spotters, trained state spotters, and locals. Interested in becoming a volunteer snow measurement reporter? Find out how here.
