A Benefit for Typhoon Victims and Commemorating a Newark Tragedy
What's going on in Newark this week

This week marks the start of the holiday season -- Thanksgiving is Thursday! We’ll be providing turkey-day-themed stories throughout the week, including info on using NJ Transit for your holiday getaway.
Also this week, Essex County officials, members of the Newark Fire Department and city officials will attend the unveiling of a marker commemorating a fire in 1910 that claimed the lives of more than two dozen garment workers. The disaster started the movement to bolster workplace safety rules across the country, a movement that picked up even wider support following the infamous Triangle fire in New York City a few months later.
The plaque will be unveiled at what is now the recently completed Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints chapel. John P. Ure, Stake President of the LDS Church, will officiate at the ceremony.

The event is free but there’s a suggested donation of $5 cash or non-perishable goods, including gently used clothing, blankets and canned goods.
