On Thursday, Nov. 7, a special Mass will be held for members of law enforcement and their families at the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart, 89 Ridge St. The “Blue Mass” is an annual tradition in Newark.
Also Thursday, a proud son of the North Ward comes home to help inspire his former neighbors. Hector Santiago, a pitcher for the Chicago White Sox who played on Newark Little League teams as a boy, will present a $7,500 donation to the North Ward Center during a noontime ceremony. The money will be used to build a new batting cage at the Stephen Adubato Sr. Recreation Complex at Branch Brook Park.
