As a parent myself, stories like this hit in a way they never used to. You read something like this and your stomach drops. You think about your own kids, your friends’ kids, the families in your community, and you realize how fragile trust can be when the person accused is someone who once held a position meant to protect children, not harm them.

A New Jersey man who worked as a teacher is now facing serious child sex crime charges in North Carolina after being extradited this week, according to authorities.

The suspect, 34-year-old William E. Alston of Aberdeen, was arrested last month in New Jersey but has now been transported to Onslow County, North Carolina, where investigators say the alleged crimes occurred during a visit earlier this year.

What Investigators Say Happened

According to the Onslow County Sheriff’s Office, the case began in early September when two girls came forward and reported that Alston had sexually assaulted them. Court documents indicate one child was only three years old and the other was under the age of 16.

Alston was taken into custody in New Jersey on November 7. After several weeks of legal process, U.S. Marshals transported him to North Carolina on December 3. Aberdeen police assisted in the investigation.

Charges and Court Status

Authorities say Alston is now facing the following charges:

  • Four counts of indecent liberties with a child
  • Statutory sexual offense with a child by an adult

Upon arrival, he was booked into the Onslow County jail and denied bond. A judge upheld that denial during a court appearance on December 4.

Officials have not yet released the name of the school or district where Alston previously taught in New Jersey.
