Cory Booker’s term as the latest member of the US Senate -- and as one of only two African-Americans in the upper house -- began at noon Thursday with his swearing-in by Vice President Joe Biden.
Fox News reported Booker and his mother met with Biden before the ceremony, after which the now former Newark mayor took part in his first official vote -- to nominate Rep. Mel Watt, D-N.C. as head the Federal Housing Finance Agency.
Booker won a special election earlier this month to fill the remainder of Sen Frank Lautenberg’s term. Lautenberg died in June.
