Breast Cancer Walk in Newark Sunday

Fundraiser begins at Lincoln Park

The City of Newark, Event Co-Chairs Council Member-at-Large Mildred Crump and Business Administrator Julien X. Neals, members of the Newark Municipal Council, and the American Cancer Society will lead the society’s 16th annual “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” walk to raise funds to fight breast cancer and increase awareness of the need for early screening and treatment on Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013, at 10 a.m.  To date, the American Cancer Society has funded more than $400 million in breast cancer specific research—more than any other non-government organization.  This year’s walk will honor the 100th anniversary of the American Cancer Society.

Registration starts at Lincoln Park at 8 a.m. The walk will begin at 10 a.m.

The Newark Division of Communications, the Department of Administration, and the Office of Council Member Crump will lead a team of Newark municipal employees, members of the Jersey Express basketball team, Rita’s Ice Cream employees and breast cancer survivors. Throughout the year, Newark municipal employees have raised funds for this campaign through bake sales and “pink sales” to heighten awareness of the cause.
