Fatal Shooting Near Recording Studio In Newark; 2 Dead, 2 Wounded (UPDATED)

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — Two people were killed and two others were wounded in a shooting that took place at a recording studio in Newark on Wednesday night, authorities say.

The shooting took place around 8 p.m. on the 700-block of Clinton Avenue in a studio used to record music videos, according to a statement from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and the Newark Department of Public Safety.

Police arrived at the scene to find four men with gunshot wounds, authorities said.

Namir Bynum, 20, of Newark, was pronounced dead at the scene. A second victim, Osayuwamen Uyamu, 20, also of Newark, was pronounced dead at University Hospital at 8:41 p.m.

Two other victims were shot and taken to University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. One of the victims was treated and released from the hospital, authorities said.

The studio – Platinum Sound – is located on the ground level of an apartment building between a hair salon and a supermarket, ABC 7 News reported.

“That place is usually quiet,” a bystander told CBS News. “No traffic really goes in and out. You hear a little music sometimes, but nothing – you don’t see anybody hanging out in the front.”
