Link Students Receive Nearly $2 Million in Scholarships

Local students have been accepted at some of the region's best high schools.

The Class of 2013 at Link Community School has collectively earned $1.7 million in scholarships for various private high schools, the school announced this week.

"We are grateful that so many private high schools, both boarding and day schools, recognize the abilities and the achievements of Link students,” said Maria Pilar Paradiso, Link’s Head of School. “The scholarships and aid that the high schools have offered our graduates will enable them to continue to build upon the excellent education they received at Link."

Some of the eighth graders who graduated June 14 have gotten scholarships to Seton Hall Prep, St. Benedict’s Prep, St. Peter’s of Jersey City, Marist High School in Bayonne, Lacordaire Academy in Montclair, The Purnell School in Far Hills,  and the Fryeburg Academy, a prestigious 220-year old boarding school in Maine.

Link, a non-denominational school for seventh- and eighth-graders, was founded 44 years ago by the Dominican Sisters of Caldwell, who wanted to create an academic environment consisting of small class sizes, outdoor activities and other enrichment opportunities. The school’s mission is to serve children from low-income households in Newark and surrounding cities.

In March, Link announced that thanks to private donations, it will no longer charge tuition. Previously, tuition was based on a sliding scale reflecting families’ ability to pay.
