Man Gets 147 Months for Carjacking

US Attorney, Newark police and other agencies worked on case

A 24-year-old city man was sentenced Monday to more than 12 years in prison for carjacking and related charges, the US Attorney’s Office announced.

Taj Elliot had previously admitted his role in a carjacking on Jan. 10, 2011, when he and some accomplices, one of whom was armed, forced the owner of a Nissan Maxima parked on park Avenue to hand over his keys and other items, then stole the car.

Elliot had also admitted to aiding in other carjackings between November 2010 and February 2011, helping sell the stolen vehicles for a profit or use them in additional carjackings.
