
Shaheed Cook, a 36-year-old Newark resident, has been identified as the victim in a fatal shooting late Tuesday night, the fifth person murdered in the city since Sunday.
Cook was shot and killed around 11:45 pm in the 900 block of S. 20th Street near Hopkins Place. Cook was pronounced dead at the scene.
Another man, identified only as a 37-year-old city resident, was also shot in the same incident but survived, said Katherine Carter, a spokesperson for the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office. That man is in critical condition.

Both men were likely targeted, officials said.
