N.J. Cops Have Heartwarming Snowball Fight With Kids (VIDEO)

Watch these New Jersey cops demonstrate the true spirit of "community policing" with a snowball fight and sled race.

HUDSON COUNTY, NJ — “Never give up the high ground during a snowball fight.” We’ll forgive officers from the North Bergen Police Department for surrendering this crucial advantage to their opponents – a group of local boys – during an impromptu snowball fight on Tuesday.

The post-blizzard community policing effort from North Bergen officers has gone viral on the internet, garnering tens of thousands of views since being posted.

With a cry of “3… 2… 1… Let’s get ‘em, boys!” the officers utilized their law enforcement training to nullify their younger opponents’ height advantage, pelting them with a barrage of snowballs during their battle at 88th Street Park.

But the snowball war was just the proverbial tip of the iceberg that day for the North Bergen officers, who also took a few minutes out of their day to challenge a few children to a sled race in James J. Braddock Park.

The winner? North Bergen officer Andrew Mejia.

As Capt. William Lyons partook in the snowball fight with Sgt. Edward Moyano and officers Santiago Hernandez, Nader Awadallah, William Brown and Bryan Suarez, North Bergen police officers Kaylan Tarabocchia and Vanessa Espinoza – accompanied by a bundled up young sledding champ – began training to take on officer Mejia for what may be short-lived bragging rights.

While his counterparts were slinging snowballs and sledding with kids, officer Alfredo Echeverria showed that there are other ways to community police in a blizzard when he helped push a stranded motorist out of a snowbank.
