Newark Film Permits: See What Shows Came To The City Last Year
Newark has seen a rise in film permits after a pandemic dip. Shows include "The Equalizer," "Law & Order" and "Wu-Tang: An American Saga."
NEWARK, NJ — The coronavirus crisis may have slowed down filming in New Jersey's largest city, but there were still plenty of high-profile projects that paid a visit to Newark over the past year, including "The Equalizer," "Law & Order" and "Wu-Tang: An American Saga."
Newark issued only 15 film permits in 2020 due to the pandemic, as opposed to 57 permits in 2019. Of note were multiple AirBnB commercials filmed in September 2020.
But so far this year, filming has begun to rebound, with several big shows choosing Newark as a location. From January to July 2021, city officials issued 37 film permits, including:

- "The Equalizer" - Production Dates: January to March 2021, throughout various locations in Newark, including City Hall
- "Law & Order" - Production Dates: Jan. 27, 2021 at museum, April 8 to 10 at the Essex County Court House
- "Wu-Tang: An American Saga" (Hulu) - Production Dates: May 5 and 6, 2021 at 110 Edison Place; May 21, 2021 at Symphony Hall, June 1, 2021 at various locations in the South Ward
- "A Perfect Find" (Netflix) - Production Dates: June 16 to July 27, 2021 at 744 Broad Street, 43 Halsey Street, The Newark Museum, Treat Place (exterior)
- Power Book III (Kanan Production Inc.) - Production Dates in August
"We invite and anticipate new and returning productions to film in Newark, as we are a city with a long history of being a center for arts and culture," a municipal spokesperson told Patch. "From historic architecture and greenscapes, to art deco skyscrapers and more, we welcome the filming of productions in Newark as we actively continue to update and advance our Office of Film and TV."
