Newark Man's Murder is Fourth in the City Since Sunday

Victim found early Wednesday, adding to a grisly toll

A 22-year-old from Newark became the city’s 93rd homicide victim this year and the fourth person murdered this week, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office confirmed Wednesday.

The man, whose name was not immediately released Wednesday afternoon pending notification of family, was found in Mildred Helms Park on Clinton Avenue around 7:20 am. He had been shot once, the prosecutor’s office said,  and was pronounced dead at the scene.

On Sunday afternoon, an Irvington man was shot and killed. Monday evening two more people were fatally shot in incidents about an hour apart and two others suffered non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.
