Newark Remembers JFK

The week ahead on Newark Patch

Essex County Newark Tech will be hosting the county’s annual seventh- and eighth-grade school fair Saturday, Nov. 23 from 10 am to noon. The school is located at 91 W. Market St.


The open house is for any student interested in attending one of the county’s four vocational technical schools which, along with Newark tech, include N. 13th Street, Bloomfield Tech and West Caldwell Tech. Attendees do not need to pre-register.

Also this week, Guy Sterling, a former reporter for The Star-Ledger, will host a commemoration of the 50th anniversary of President John F. Kennedy’s death Friday, Nov. 22 at noon on the steps of city hall, 920 Broad St.


It was from this spot that Kennedy gave his only speech in Newark as president. The commemoration will include a reading of Kennedy’s speech, delivered on Columbus Day 1962, as well a viewing of photos from that day.
