Newark 'Star Student' Helps Lead Post-COVID Resurgence Of Debate Team
"Ashley is willing to put in the work today so that her future self can thank her."

NEWARK, NJ — Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.
Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students in New Jersey, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.
One such person? Ashley of Newark, who was nominated by Drixxon Kyser (see above photo, center).

Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?
Ashley has played a major role in the resurgence of the Science Park High School debate team, which now has [about] 20 kids on the team and has bounced back strong post-COVID. She and her policy debate partner, Victoria, have won several debate tournaments and just recently came in first place for the NJ Policy Debate State Championship.
What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star local student?
She's serious about her future and willing to volunteer and put in the work to better her community. She recently created a LinkedIn profile and sent me a connection request. Most kids never mess with LinkedIn until they're actively searching for jobs.
Ashley is willing to put in the work today so that her future self can thank her.
Congratulations on your achievements, and all of our best wishes to you in the future, Ashley!
