Newarker Named Head of Leadership Academy
Vizcarrodno has worked for city health department

A Newark resident has been named the head of the leadership institute of a Pennsylvania college.
Maria Vizcarrondo began serving as executive director of the Nerney Leadership Institute at Cabrini College Monday.
Vizcarrondo’s experience spans the corporate, non-profit and government sectors. Most recently, she served as president/chief executive officer of Health-e-CITi-NJ, a federally funded health-information exchange serving northern New Jersey. She also served in executive roles in the Newark Health Department, United Way of Essex and West Hudson, and the Center for Hispanic Policy, Research and Development.

“Maria brings to the campus strong energy, a passion for leadership development in young people, and a strong organizational approach that will provide the inspiration for immediate growth of the Nerney Leadership Institute,” said Anne Skleder, provost and vice president for academic affairs, who oversees the Institute.
Vizcarrondo holds degrees from Kean College and Columbia University. She also did postgraduate work at Rutgers in urban policy.
