NJPAC Hosting Sandy Retrospective and Booker to be Sworn In
The week ahead on Newark Patch

This week, Essex County officials will gather at Independence Park to unveil the new synthetic grass surface at the facility’s soccer field. The ceremony will be held at the park -- located on Van Buren Street -- Tuesday, Oct. 29 at noon.
Tuesday also marks the first anniversary of Superstorm Sandy, which devastated the state and cost dozens of lives. To commemorate the occasion, the New Jersey Performing Arts Center and The Star Ledger are co-hosting a program entitled “Arts Take Action: Sandy One Year Later,” which will feature performances, visual arts and discussions on the impact of the storm and subsequent recovery efforts. The program begins at 7 pm and admission is free.
And on Halloween, Mayor Cory Booker officially leaves city hall to become New Jersey’s next US Senator, New Jersey’s first African-American representative to that governing body. Vice President Joseph Biden is scheduled to administer the oath in Washington.
