Maria Da Ascencao Cardosa Dos Santos died at St. Michael’s Hospital Oct. 23. She was 92.

Born in Murtosa, Portugal, she came moved to the United States in 1950, settling in the Ironbound and worked for Goldsmith Leather Co. of Newark for more than 20 years.

She is survived by a daughter, Marie Nunes, and son-in-law Telmo; four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Sherman S. Fowler, 63, died Wednesday, Oct. 9 at his home.

A lifelong Plainfield resident until moving to Newark five years ago, Fowler served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War era. He worked at Nestle Waters for 20 years before retiring five years ago.

He is survived by his wife Lillian Helen Jasper Fowler; three daughters, Monyel R. Bryant, Nicole Edna Jasper and Shana Bolden-Fowler; a son, Michael Pitts; five grandchildren; four sisters, Edna Jones, Mahalia Stewart, Deborah Fowler and Elaine Rassaw (Alex); and five brothers Rudolph Fowler, Jr. Darrell Stewart (Valarie), Jeffery, Richard and Isaiah Fowler.
