St. Patrick's Day Parade Returns to Newark for 79th Year

Police advise motorists to expect delays Friday afternoon.

The 79th annual Newark St. Patrick's Day Parade on Friday afternoon will close portions of Mulberry, Center and Washington streets and Central Avenue.

The parade, which starts at 1 p.m., kicks off at the Prudential Center and finishes at Washington Park. The festivities will include the second annual high school band competition.

Newark Police have advised motorists to expect delays in the area and to plan alternate routes, according to NJ.com.

The oldest New Jersey St. Patrick's Day parade will be led by Dr. John A. Brennan, president and CEO of Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and the Children's Hospital of New Jersey, as Grand Marshal and Marion C. O'Neill, manager of corporate contributions for Public Service Enterprise Group, as Deputy Grand Marshal.
