Store Owner Shot and Killed Sunday

Officials seeking information from the public

The owner of a Chancellor Avenue deli was shot and killed Sunday in what authorities believe was an attempted robbery, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office said.


Joseph Flagg, a 41-year-old Union resident, was found inside the store at 282 Chancellor Ave. He was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after 1 pm.


Police are investigating the murder and had not made any arrests as of Wednesday. Anyone with information is being asked to call the prosecutor’s office homicide task force at 1-877-847-7432.
