
Nine people were displaced in an early morning fire that ripped through three adjacent homes, the Newark Fire Department said Saturday.
Fire broke out at 94 Smith St. at around 3:50 am and quickly spread to adjacent homes at 92 and 96, said Capt. John Brown. The blaze went to two alarms before being brought under control shortly after 5 am.
At least nine people were displaced, Brown also said. One firefighter was hospitalized with breathing problems.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, Brown also said.
