Woman Charged with Weapons, Drugs Violations

Authorities search North Ward home last week

A 32-year-old city woman was arraigned Oct. 5 after being arrested on weapons and drug charges, the Essex County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

The sheriff’s Bureau of Narcotics and the US Drug Enforcement Agency cooperated in the arrest of Odette Arias, who was found an apartment at 333 Park Ave. Authorities were executing a search warrant at the address, making a forced entry when no one responded to knocks on the door.

In a kitchen cabinet, sheriff’s BON detectives discovered 16.6 grams of cocaine hidden in a cabinet.  A fully loaded, .45 caliber Hi-Point semi-automatic handgun was also discovered taped underneath the kitchen table, authorities said.

From the top of a dresser in the apartment’s bedroom, sheriff’s detectives discovered 205 grams of marijuana in plastic sandwich bags and note pads containing alleged narcotics ledgers.  In the bedroom closet, the sheriff’s officers discovered a black plastic garbage bag containing a digital scale, a strainer, empty glassine envelopes and other drug paraphernalia, authorities said.

Bail was set at $100,000.
