Chicken Outlaw's Final Appeal, Stiff Penalties for Unbuckled Dogs in Local News This Week

New Milford's Board of Health, informed Jeffrey DelVecchio, the self-proclaimed "Chicken Outlaw," that the board stands by their original decision to deny his request to revise the 1968 borough ordinance banning the keeping of backyard chickens.

Col. Frank Rizzo, police superintendent for the New Jersey Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, issued a warning that any motorist found driving with an unrestrained pet will face a penalty much stiffer than the $46 fine issued to unbuckled drivers and passengers.

The Historic Preservation Commission is hosting New Milford's annual birthday celebration today at 2 pm at the New Milford Public Library to mark the 335th anniversary of the Demarest family's settlement of New Milford as well as the 90th anniversary of the borough's incorporation. Dan Harmatz, President Emeritus of the Library's Board of Trustees, and long-time community volunteer, will be honored at the celebration.
