Elks Sponsor National Essay Contest
Two New Milford students' essays chosen for consideration on the state level.

The New Milford Elks Lodge is once again participating in the annual Elks Club national essay contest. This year's topic is "Why I'm Proud to Pledge Allegiance to Our Flag." The essay contest consists of two divisions: fifth and sixth-graders and seventh and eighth-graders.
The essays of two New Milford students, Thomas Robalino and Matthew Johns, were chosen for consideration on the state level.
According to the American Chairman of New Milford's Elk Lodge, Richard Smith, New Milford Elks collected 180 essays from New Milford public schools and St. Joseph's School in Oradell. These 180 essays were read aloud by Smith along with other select members of the New Milford Elks and from those, the top essays were chosen.
