Take a look at the week ahead in New Milford

We have certainly hit the dog days of summer, as this week proves to be a quiet week in New Milford. No mayor and council meetings, no planning or zoning board meetings, no court.
Here's what is going on this week:
The monthly meeting of the Historic Preservation Committee is Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in the upstairs conference room at . This committee is charged with preserving historic structures and areas in the borough, in addition to researching borough history from the first landing of the Demarest family, through its role as a farming community, to the small suburban town it is today.

The Historic Preservation Committee also maintains an archive of historic photos and other memorabilia in the New Milford Public Library, and has also posted historic signs designating the historic homes of New Milford.
Escape the summer heat and come see a movie at the library. will be hosting a free screening of "Shadow of a Doubt" on Thursday at noon. "Shadow of a Doubt" is Hitchcock at his finest. This 1943 American thriller stars Teresa Wright as a teenager who suspects her uncle, Joseph Cotten, of being the serial killer "The Merry Widow Murderer."

The opening scenes of this movie were shot in Newark's Central Ward and the New York City skyline, along with the Pulaski Skyway, are featured in the opening shot.
The Rent Leveling Board will be meeting on Thursday at 6 p.m. in the upstairs conference room at borough hall. This committee consists of two landlord representatives, two tenants, and one resident homeowner of the municipality, all appointed by the Mayor with the consent of the Council.
The Board holds hearings and adjudicates applications from landlords for additional rent increases; hold hearings and adjudicates complaints by tenants concerning violations of rental and tax surcharge provisions; hold hearings and adjudicates applications from tenants for reducing rents; and reviews and adjudicates charges of tenant harassment.
The Drug Alliance Committee will be meeting on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in the upstairs conference room at borough hall. The alliance's mission is to encourage the community to practice healthy, drug-free living and to provide education and resources on the prevention of, recognition of, and consequences of substance abuse.
Throughout the year the alliance sponsors Community Day, Fishing Derby, Middle School and High School dances, Annual Carnival, Family Volleyball Marathons and Summer Basketball Tournaments.
Reminder that the has suspended overnight parking rules from May 27 through September 3. This does not include commercial vehicles. Commercial vehicles are prohibited from parking overnight on borough streets.
