New Milford Relay for Life Needs Volunteers
Form a team, volunteer for an event, get involved and raise money for cancer research.
The stories told at Friday's Relay for Life kick-off at are sadly familiar. A routine exam turned into a finding that turned into an agonizing wait before a diagnosis of cancer was determined.
Then came the battle. Rounds of radiation, months of chemotherapy, and, in some cases, surgery. For the survivors who shared their stories, finding a cure is another important way to battle the disease. But to find a cure, money must be raised. And that is what Relay for Life is all about—raising money for cancer research.
To the dismay of those in attendance, Friday evening's kick-off to New Milford's Relay for Life was not as well-attended as last year.

Kimberly Puleo, Director of Special Events for the American Cancer Society, said that "hundreds" attended last year's kick-off. Approximately 50 people attended this year. Puleo is hoping that the community of New Milford will come out and form teams and volunteer to make this year's Relay for Life as successful as last year.
This year's Relay for Life will begin at 5 p.m. on May 18th and run through 6 a.m. on May 19th. The event will be held on the recreation field behind borough hall.
