Relays have been held since the event's founding in 1985. Relay for Life is an overnight event and teams have at least one member walking around a track or path for the duration of the event.

The actual Relay for Life main event will be held May 18th at Gibbs School. The rally Friday is to celebrate the start of the relay planning process and residents are encouraged to attend and get more information on the program.

Relay for Life usually begins with a Survivors Lap, where cancer survivors take a lap to celebrate their victory against cancer. There are also luminaria, bagged candles with names inscribed, that honor those whose lives have been touched by cancer. The walking continues until the closing ceremony.

Last year's Relay For Life of New Milford included over 800 participants and over $97,000 was raised. This year's Relay for Life needs more help in order to make it as successful as last year.

The more Relayers, the more lives are saved. Grab family, grab friends, grab neighbors and click here to register for this year's Relay for Life.
