New Providence and Berkeley Heights were two of 20 Union County towns to make the top 100 in the state, according to the list.

The magazine’s methodology eliminated towns with populations less than 1,500 from eligibility. New Jersey Family looked at the entire state and then compiled the list by measuring each municipality against a number of factors, including school district quality, crime rates, affordability, commute times, percentage of families who live there, access to hospitals and general lifestyle factors. The magazine then developed an algorithm based on the data to determine the ranking.
