Police: New Providence Resident Stalked Morristown Woman Via Email

New Providence resident Michael Hui was arrested Friday night, after he admitted stalking a Morristown woman via email, according to affidavit filed with Morris County courts.

Hui, who resides on Stoneridge Road in New Providence, admitted to police that he was sending emails to a 26-year-old Morristown woman via multiple addresses, according to the affidavit, signed by Detective Edward Mitreuter of the Morris County Prosecutor's Office.

The woman, whose identity is not being revealed by police, first reported on March 5 that she felt she was being stalked electronically via email, and that she had been receiving numerous emails from different email addresses she did not recognize, according to the affidavit. The woman told police she was concerned for her safety due to the content of those emails, according to the affidavit.

An investigation revealed the emails were originating from Hui's residence in New Providence, according to the affidavit. It did not specify how the emails were traced to that home.

Hui was interviewed on March 23 by Detective Chris Oakley and by Mitreuter, the affidavit states. He admitted to stalking the woman and using her identity to create additional fictitious email accounts and emails, according to the affidavit. 

The arrest warrant, rather than a summons, had been requested by the Morris County Prosecutor's Office because, based on the allegations "it is necessary to request that the court issue a no contact order with the victim which shall include the victim's place of employment and have the defendant surrender any passport that he may have," according to the affidavit.
