Police Seize Drugs, Cash After Motor Vehicle Stop

New Providence Police seized thousands of dollars in cash and drugs after stopping a speeding car.

New Providence Police stopped a speeding vehicle in the borough on Wednesday, April 8, and seized thousands of dollars in drugs and cash as a result, authorities said.

After stopping the vehicle, which was traveling almost 20 miles per hour above the posted speed limit, on Central Avenue in the borough, police noticed the odor of marijuana while speaking to the driver, according to a report from NJ.com. Police subsequently searched the vehicle, which uncovered numerous types of drugs.

New providence Police confiscated more than $1,000 in cash and drugs with an estimated street value of $18,000. According to the report from NJ.com, the drugs included:

  • More than 1,300 folds containing suspected heroin;
  • More than five ounces of suspected marijuana;
  • More than six grams of suspected cocaine
  • Varying amounts of suspected Crack/Cocaine, MDMA and Ecstasy;
  • Varying amounts of suspected prescription medications.

Following the stop and search, Christopher Ferrante, 35, of Clifton; Ephraim Irwin, 38, or Bayonne; and Angel Hernandez, 37, also of Bayonne, were arrested, the report said.

Each man was charged with multiple drug posssession and distribution of controlled dangerous substance charges and distribution of drug paraphernalia. All three were transported to the Union County Jail and held on $100,000 bail.
