All Are Welcome at Relay for Life on Friday Night

Ocean City hosts its fifth annual American Cancer Society Relay for Life from 6 p.m. June 21 until 6 a.m. June 22.

Ocean City will hosts its fifth annual American Cancer Society Relay for Life starting at 6 p.m. Friday (June 21) on the track at Carey Stadium behind Ocean City High School.

Registered teams will take turns walking all night as part a fundraiser in the search for a cure to cancer.

But everybody is invited to come, see what the event is all about, enjoy the entertainment and activities, and stay until after the Luminaria Ceremony that starts at 10 p.m., according to Nicole Morrison, director of special events for the Eastern Division of the American Cancer Society.

A full schedule of events is attached to this story as a PDF. Attendees don't have to be registered to just stop by, make a donation or purchase a luminaria.

Cinderella will be posing for photographs with children starting at 5 p.m. until the Opening Ceremony at 6 p.m.

The Relay for Life is an all-night celebration that honors the lives of people battling cancer and  remembers those who have died of the disease. For participating teams, the basic premise is simple: 10 to 20 people take turns walking or running around the track all night on Friday.

The special activities that go on during the relay make the event special. This year's schedule includes everything from live music (the Cliff Morin Band with Dean Howey, 7 p.m.) to a Disney Look-Alike Contest at 8:30 p.m.

In the 10 p.m. Luminaria Ceremony, participants display candlelit bags decorated to honor loved ones lost to cancer. It also includes a slideshow of friends and family affected by the disease.
