Beloved Zebra Dies Suddenly At NJ Zoo
Gretta the zebra died just a few weeks after giving birth, officials said.

CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE, NJ — A beloved member of the Cape May County Zoo's Grant's zebra herd has died, just weeks after giving birth, county officials announced.
Gretta died on July 9 following a fall in the zebra enclosure, according to a news release.
While running with the herd, Gretta fell and could not get up. She had broken several bones and became paralyzed. Zoo staff rushed to her and stayed until her passing that evening.

"We are deeply saddened by the passing of Gretta, a beloved member of our Zoo family, who brought joy to thousands of visitors," said Cape May County Commissioner Andrew Bulakowski. "We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our team, security, and volunteers, whose swift response exemplified true dedication."
