Betsy Young Fund to Hold Free Cancer Awareness Seminar

The event takes place 11 a.m. Saturday (June 1) at the Ocean City Free Public Library.

The Betsy Young Memorial Fund will host a free cancer awareness seminar 11 a.m.
June 1 at the Ocean City Free Public Library.

The American Cancer Society will speak about breast cancer and ways to prevent it. Gilda's Club will speak about services offered to those diagnosed with cancer, and our very own board member Ginni Szczepanski will speak a few words of wisdom from her own experience.

We also are proud to have Linda and Susan Raiser come out to speak. Susan is a survivor of breast cancer, and together the sisters raise money around town for their Relay For Life Team, The Island Girls, and educate many at various seminars.

More than 12 million people are diagnosed with cancer, but more than five types of cancer are preventable. We hope to inform the public about preventing cancer, and we want to help everyone diagnosed with cancer by introducing them to support options.

"This is a big step for the Memorial Fund. We are very proud to be able to sponsor this type of event, and it is just one of many. There are many local families, teachers and even children affected by cancer, and by raising awareness we can help lower the growth of those numbers," says Executive Director Amanda Cimpeanu.

If the event brings high attendance, there will be more to come featuring local doctors and more survivor speakers.

The seminar is held in the lecture room of the library, at 11 a.m. and admission is free.
