Carolina Team to Compete in Ocean City Surf Fishing Tourney

Legendary long-distance caster Ryan White will be among the competitors in the October event.

One of the most experienced surf fishing teams on the Outer Banks of North Carolina is coming to Ocean City this October to compete in the Ocean City Fishing Club’s first-ever three-day Centennial fishing tournament.

The six-member Advanced Fishing-USA, based in Rodanthe and including the legendary long-distance tournament caster Ryan White, have registered for the tournament, which may draw as many as 100 East Coast teams to Ocean City’s beaches on October 17-19.

White, 37, is owner of the Hatteras Jack Tackle Shop and co-founder of Advanced Fishing-USA, a company that partners with Century Rods and serves as the sole importer to America of the United Kingdom-based firm’s products. He is a well-known surf-casting mentor who averages casts of 725 feet in tournament competition

“Our team fishes all of the beach tournaments in North Carolina,” White explained. “We heard about the 100th anniversary tournament in Ocean City, where many anglers have bought our Century Rods. So we decided to come up north, have some fun, do some serious fishing, and maybe sell some more products.”

White’s firm is a sponsor of the tournament and a participant in the tackle show, which will be held October 18 from 7 to 8 pm. at the Ocean City Sports and Civic Center.

“We are excited about Ryan White and the Advanced Fishing-USA team participating in our event,” said Mike Hayes, the tournament coordinator. “They will face some stiff competition from teams from throughout the mid-Atlantic, but they are up to it.”

Founded in 1913, the Ocean City Fishing Club is the oldest, continuously operating fishing club in the United States. The three-day tournament is part of a year-long series of events commemorating the club’s historic milestone.
