Dog Abandoned, Tied To Bench In Front Of Humane Society Of Ocean City
"People are dumping these animals like never has been seen before," the humane society said, with four dogs abandoned in the last month.
OCEAN CITY, NJ — Animal shelters across South Jersey are wondering why dogs are seeming to be abandoned at a record pace after the Humane Society of Ocean City found a dog tied to a bench in front of their shelter.
"This dog was found by Ocean City Police shortly after midnight on August 1st," the shelter said in a Facebook post. "She was tied to a bench in front of our shelter with a note stating they could no longer care for her."
The humane society shared a photo of the handwritten note, which explains that the dog is a one-year-old pit bull named Mello who needs a new home as the previous owners were no longer able to take care of her.

Security footage shared by the shelter shows a person tying the dog to a bench. The dog appears to try and go after the person but is unable to.
They shared the video "not really to shame but just to show how impactful and sad to see this poor dog being tied to a bench and left in the dark, all the while looking to see where her person went," they said.
"People are dumping these animals like never has been seen before and we think WE as a society need to try to wrap our heads around it and figure out what the heck is going on," the humane society said.
