Community Corner

Spring Bazaar

The Betsy Young Memorial Fund will sponsor its first Spring Bazaar 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 20, at the Ocean City Community Center.

Proceeds benefit the Betsy Young Scholarship for Ocean City High School students. The fund is named for a music teacher who inspired many young students in her 13 years of teaching at Ocean City Intermediate School. Young died of a form of brain cancer at age 50 in August 2011.

Businesses, vendors, crafters and non-profit organizations will set up and promote services at the Spring Bazaar.

"I wanted to have this event for two reasons," Memorial Fund Executive Director Amanda Cimpeanu said. "One being there are a lot of at-home businesses that are always looking for exposure, and the second being we wanted to help local businesses reach out to the community and hopefully gain more clientele. With the economy and the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, a lot of businesses are looking for new ways to promote themselves and I figured why not gather everyone in the same place, have a great time, and spread the love around."

Some participants already signed up include: Little Lovees, Beauty Mark By Christina, Thirty One Gifts, Inspirations Gift Gallery, Liberty Mutual Insurance, Premier Jewelry, Usborne Books, Tastefully Simple, Kelly's Creations, Ocean City Police Department and Sooy Fitness.
