KING AND QUEEN OF PLOP: The fifth annual competition will be held at the Ninth Street Beach starting 11 a.m. This is the city's unique way of welcoming the fall season, always a pleasant time at the shore.
Contestants demonstrate their enthusiasm for autumn by falling dramatically in slow motion to the sand. Those performing the most dramatic renditions will be crowned the King and Queen of Plop or Mr. Fall Guy or Miss Fall Gal. After the winner is announced, contestants hold hands and perform a mass plopping, as a good will, no sore loser gesture. Contestants may register starting 10:30 a.m. Entry is free and prizes will be awarded.
