Fall Block Party Fireworks Canceled In Ocean City

Fireworks that typically cap off the Fall Block Party have been canceled on Saturday due to strong winds and heavy seas in the forecast.

OCEAN CITY, NJ — The fireworks display that typically caps off Ocean City's Fall Block Party has been canceled on Saturday due to stormy weather.

Officials made the decision Thursday after consulting with the barge and fireworks companies.

“I know that’s a disappointment, but the marine forecast calls for strong winds and heavy seas that would prevent the fireworks company from telling the barge out in the ocean,” said City Business Administrator George Savastano.

Savastano said making the decision ahead of time saved the city more than $8,000 in staging costs that would have been lost if they canceled at the last minute.
