Final Test Results Show OCHS Free of Mold After Cleanup

Environmental cleanup crews finished work removing mold from parts of Ocean City High School on Sept. 12, and within three days final test results allowed the school to reopen all parts of the building to students and faculty.

The tests indicated that the school was free of all airborne and surface mold and ended a chapter that required the closing of the entire school for one day and parts of the school for four other days.

After the discovery of mold, the school restricted students and faculty from entering entering a set of classrooms, including art and music rooms, and the school auditorium on the first day of classes Thursday, Sept. 6. The entire school closed on Sept. 7 as the cleanup continued.

The common surface mold had been there for no more than five to seven days, environmental consultants told school officials.

Extremely high humidity late in the summer contributed to a problem that led several southern New Jersey schools to close to protect the health of students.
