Five Things to Know About Thursday's Council Agenda
Work ahead of marina project in Ocean City, pay raises for directors, fines for wayward trucks and more.

City Council has a full agenda for its public meeting 7 p.m. Thursday (Aug. 8) at the Ocean City Free Public Library, but here are five things that might be of special interest:
- $100,000 for bayside work at 10th Street: City Council will consider the first reading of an ordinance that appropriates $100,000 to remove damaged docks and marina structures on the bay at 10th Street. City Council declared the site "an area in need of rehabilitation" earlier this year, and a local family hopes to redevelop it as a marina and restaurant.
- Pay raises for city directors: City Council will consider the first reading of an ordinance that raises the salaries of Finance Director Frank Donato by $16,000, of Police Chief Chad Callahan by $14,000 and City Clerk Linda MacIntyre by $6,000. In 2011, Mayor Jay Gillian abandoned an effort to increase the salary caps for the positions (which are defined by ordinance). A new department director was hired in May at a substantially higher salary. See Agenda Packet for more detail on this ordinance and all other agenda items.
- Increased fines for trucks leaving designated routes: City Council will consider the second and potentially final reading of an ordinance that dramatically increases fines for trucks leaving designated truck routes to take shortcuts through neighborhoods.
- Fall road improvements: City Council will vote to advertise for bids on a new round of road improvements. The winners in this round include some streets between 39th and 52nd streets. See Agenda Packet for more detail.
- City Hall repairs: City Council will vote to award a $1.2 million contract to Arthur Ogren Inc. of Vineland for repairs to City Hall, which was flooded by Superstorm Sandy in October 2012.
