SOMERS POINT, NJ — Locals have had to go without it for the past week, but good news is on the horizon. At 11 a.m. on April 1, the Anchorage Tavern will be back, under new ownership.

But regulars at this iconic bar needn't worry. Things will be the same as they were under Don Mahoney, who owned the Anchorage Tavern for more than a quarter of a century.

"He was there first thing in the morning and stayed till late at night, every single day," the restaurant shared about Mahoney on Facebook. "He was loved by his loyal customers and staff alike, and that is why so many of his employees have been there 10-30 years."

While Mahoney enjoys retirement, Michael Fitzgerald is taking over.

"Mike and his family have always loved the Anchorage Tavern!" the Facebook post said. "The biggest selling point for him was the Anchorage brand, as in the staff, food and history. So every employee from the cooks, severs, hostesses, managers, bartenders, barbacks, bus boys, food runners, dishwashers, doormen etc. will all be staying on to make this the smoothest transition possible!"

A longtime Somers Point resident, Fitzgerald now lives in Northfield, according to the Facebook post.

So, if you love the Anchorage, make sure to head there on April 1 to welcome in its new owner.
