Letter From Mayor: Community Will Gather for 9-11 Ceremony

In his weekly update to citizens, Mayor Jay Gillian invites community to program to mark anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001.

September 6, 2013

Dear Friends:

On Sept. 11 at 6 p.m., we will gather as a community for our annual “As I Remember” program to commemorate and reflect on the tragic events of September 11, 2001.  I hope you will join us in front of the firehouse at 550 Asbury Avenue for this meaningful and solemn event.

As many of you know, last year’s program included the dedication of a memorial sculpture featuring an artifact from the World Trade Center.

On another note, I’m pleased to see how much our residents and visitors are enjoying the recreational features of the new Route 52 causeway and bridges.  If you haven’t yet found the time to walk, bike or jog the mixed use path I urge you to do so.  Throughout the day people are using the path, fishing off of one of the new fishing piers, launching kayaks, bird watching or just simply enjoying the spectacular views.

How fortunate we were as a community to receive all of the amenities this project provided in addition to a brand new roadway and bridges!

Finally, a reminder that school is back in session.  Please take extra care when driving near bus stops and our three schools.  I hope our students have a successful and enjoyable year in our wonderful school system.

Have a great weekend!

Warm regards,

Jay A. Gillian
Mayor
