Dear Friends:
We should all take pride in the fact that Ocean City as a community is dedicated to the arts.

Our renowned and beloved Ocean City Pops is one of the few municipally owned orchestras in the country. Since 1929, they’ve been entertaining thousands during each summer’s concert series. Their varied programming means an evening with the Pops can provide anything from a fully staged Broadway musical to opera, jazz, tributes to legendary artists, children’s programs and more. If you’ve never experienced the Pops I encourage you to visit www.oceancitypops.org to find a concert that fits your schedule and interests. You’ll be glad you did!
The Ocean City Arts Center at 1735 Simpson Avenue has been described as a place for the individual to gain an appreciation of mankind’s diversity through the visual and performing arts. The Center provides classes, workshops, programs and exhibits for all ages and all interests throughout the year. The highlight of the year for many supporters of the Ocean City Arts Center is the Annual Boardwalk Art Show, scheduled this year for August 2nd through the 4th. Leading artists from around the country will exhibit and sell their work along our famous boardwalk. This show is traditionally a great opportunity to buy fine artwork at reasonable prices. Ocean City has been enhanced by the work of the non-profit organization Community Art Projects. They have raised funds to provide sculptures, murals and other diverse works of art throughout the community. Their work is quickly making Ocean City a destination for public art. The Greater Ocean City Theatre Company has quickly become one of the leading arts organizations in the region. Their offerings include professional Broadway musical productions, a Children’s Theatre Series, Junior Company Productions, Summer Music and Dance Camps and Classes and special holiday programs. For all the details visit:www.oceancitytheatrecompany.com
Another local nonprofit organization is the Ocean City Fine Arts League. The League encourages participation, inspiration and an increased awareness of the arts, placing a special emphasis on the work of emerging artists. I encourage you to visit the League’s gallery “Art on Asbury” at 608 Asbury Avenue. For more information: www.oceancityfineartsleague.org
You can help to sustain the arts in Ocean City by attending these organization’s events, contributing financially if you’re able or volunteering your time.
The arts…..one of the best parts of “America’s Greatest Family Resort”!
Warm regards,
Jay A. Gillian
Mayor
