For families like the Leisters, who were visiting from Downingtown, Pa., the contests have provided a source of both fun and tradition. Mom — Becky Leister — was the big winner on Monday with a red second-place ribbon for her 3-D depiction of corn on the cob.

The Leisters and scores of other families crowded the Music Pier pavilion on Monday as passing showers moved by outside.
